Ellis Zorro vs Hosea Burton Preview
At light heavyweight, Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna returns to London to defend his WBC International championship, which he earned in January, against Willy Hutchinson, who is vying for his first title at the weight.
Following his Wembley defeat to Maderna, light heavyweight Karol Itauma (9-1, 7 KOs) will look to get back to winning ways in eight-round action, with Southampton snapper Ryan Garner (12-0, 6) returning to the ring over six rounds, along with formidable Polish cruiserweight Michal Soczynski (5-0, 2) and welterweight prospects Sean Noakes (4-0, 2) and George Davey (6-0-1, 1).
“I think Ellis Zorro versus Hosea Burton is a fantastic fight that, if successful, can catapult Ellis right into the thick of the cruiserweight mix,” stated promoter Frank Warren. “It’s a toss-up because Hosea is a revitalized force now that he’s moved up from light heavyweight.”
“I’m also looking forward to seeing Willy Hutchinson mature at light heavyweight and fulfil his obvious potential against a quality opponent we’re all familiar with.” The same can be said about Ryan Garner, who has returned to the ring after being sidelined for much of last year through no fault of his own. Ryan is still a top-tier fighter who needs to get in some huge battles right now.”
Zorro (15-0, 6) returns to conventional action after a hard-fought points victory over Dec Spelman in September of last year and now seeks his first professional title belt.
Burton (28-3, 12) moved up to cruiserweight after losing to Dan Azeez in a British title fight in November 2021. The 34-year-old became British champion in 2016 after stopping Miles Shinkwin, and he has previously competed for the WBO European belt.
Hutchinson (15-1, 11) had two stunning knockout victories since returning to light heavyweight after a failed bid for the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight crowns against Lennox Clarke in 2021.
The seasoned Maderna (29-10, 19) stopped Itauma with a huge right at Wembley Arena to capture the vacant WBC International crown, having previously faced Artur Beterbiev, Jose Uzcategui, and Fedor Chudinov.
