A major opportunity for Nyck de Vries. Even though the Dutchman De Vries would have preferred his F1 opportunity to arise under more favorable circumstances, he is eager to seize this chance.

He is the reserve driver for Williams and has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Nicholas Latifi in 2023, so this is a good audition for him.

De Vries will compete in his first-ever Formula 1 qualifying session and Grand Prix this weekend. If he can beat Latifi in the same car despite having far less experience with it, his chances of securing a seat for ’23 will be significantly enhanced.

What will happen to Alex Albon?

The Thai-British driver was looking forward to this weekend’s race at Monza, as the Williams car has proven to be very quick in a straight line and the Italian circuit is one of the fastest on the schedule.

However, he awoke on Saturday morning feeling ill before today’s qualifying and sought medical advice from both the FIA and a local hospital in northern Italy.

According to a team statement, he has been diagnosed with appendicitis and is undergoing treatment. Dutchman De Vries will partner with Nicholas Latifi for the remainder of the Grand Prix weekend, which continues with FP3 shortly.

Albon took to Twitter on Saturday at noon and, all things considered, sounded optimistic.

Appendicitis, surgery and no racing isn’t what I was expecting this weekend!

    Negatives:
    – Missing out on what looks like a strong weekend for us
    – Pain

    Positives
    – Weight reduction for Singapore
    – Cool scars pic.twitter.com/HOfA18eF5W

    Williams declared:

“Williams Racing can confirm that Alex Albon is currently receiving treatment for appendicitis after feeling ill this morning and seeking medical advice from the FIA and a local hospital. We can confirm that reserve driver Nyck de Vries will replace Alex for the remainder of the Italian Grand Prix weekend. Alex has a positive attitude, and his teammates wish him a speedy recovery.”

The most important thing is that Alex is now in the best possible care, and he appears to be in the best possible mood given the circumstances.

    Who will Replace Alex Albon?

Nyck de Vries will replace Alexander Albon for the remainder of the Italian race weekend. In Formula 1, the Dutchman will make his racing debut.

De Vries will replace Albon on the Williams team in Italy. The Dutchman drove for Aston Martin in FP1 on Friday. The British-Thai driver will not participate in any additional races this weekend. Due to his appendicitis, Albon will no longer be permitted to drive at Monza.
